Teocalli Ridge is back and better than ever

It has been a common refrain this summer. When people return from a tour on the new and improved Teocalli Ridge trail, the comment is almost always, “Best ride ever.” 
It hurts, there’s no question. It’s a long way out there and a healthy climb up there but once you’ve reached the top of the ride, the changes made last year make it all worthwhile. The new section is part side hill screaming downhill, part Deadman’s switchbacks, part Doctor Park high-speed Ewok forest sections and longer than the original descent.

Whetstoners look to rebound for post season

“It’s been a thin season”

The Whetstoners had their moment in the sun. It was the year 2012 and they were on top of the world. After losing to the Rasta Hairnets in the finals of 2011, they exacted revenge in 2012 edging out the Rasta Hairnets in the championship game, in the dark, to win the rec league title. They were loved, they were hated, they were like licorice.

Ahhh, the monsoonal flow of summer is upon us and could wreak havoc upon the last week of the regular season and playoffs of local slowpitch softball. What is monsoonal flow exactly? In a nutshell, rain, and lots of it in a short amount of time, and typically in the afternoon.

HAT Tournament brings out the ultimate freaks for fun

Get to the Chopper!!!

Disc enthusiasts came from as far away as Texas on Saturday, July 26 to participate in the annual Crested Butte HAT ultimate tournament. Members of the local Lawn Gnomes team have been busy this summer traveling throughout the West but stayed at home to play host to 93 ultimate players.

WSCU Mountaineers track and field earn academic honors

11 individuals, both teams recognized

Tuesday evening the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the 2014 NCAA Division II All-Academic award winners. The Western State Colorado University track and field programs proved yet again that excellence can be achieved in the classroom as well as on the track.

Sixteen teams confirmed for USA Pro Challenge bike race

Riders hit Crested Butte on Tuesday, August 19

The 2014 USA Pro Challenge will feature 16 of the world’s top professional cycling teams, August 18-24, 2014. 
Led by UCI ProTeams BMC Racing Team, Cannondale Pro Cycling, Team Garmin-Sharp, Tinkoff-Saxo and Trek Factory Racing, the race will include some of the top talent in the sport. Taking riders on a heart-pounding journey through the Colorado Rockies, the seven-day stage race will travel 550 miles from Aspen to Denver, making stops in cities known for their cycling culture and history, such as Vail and Boulder.
